How Meditation Helps with Fitness Motivation: Wake Up to Bulk Up

I had the honor of chatting w/ Rudy Makupson from Zen Teachings about how meditation helps with fitness, motivation, strengthening commitment to self, pushing past pain to develop physical prowess, and helps with motivation at the gym and in martial arts!

Show Notes:

3:45: How to push past the desire to quit to be the person you want to be

Rudy of Zen Teachings shares his experiences with fitness motivation at the dojo and his expertise with using meditation.  He implores, “When it’s easier to stay down, you get up…it’s just that deciding despite obstacles, despite any challenges that you are going to do what you’re supposed to do.”

5:03: Courage over Comfort

Dr. Rachel asks Rudy about how meditation helps practically when he’s in the heat of physical and emotional pain.

7:28: What to do when you just want to quit and how to decide not to

Rudy explains how making the clear commitment to the goal and noticing the desire to want to quit can help hold you accountable.  Rudy also discusses the truth about how meditation helps navigate life’s hardships.

15:00: How mindfulness helps develop curiosity towards discomfort and why Rudy thinks everyone should be punched in the face, at least once

Dr. Rachel and Rudy explore the benefits of pain.

18:00: Meditation in motion, and how working out can be meditative

Dr. Rachel and Rudy discuss how being present with the physical pain at the gym and while working out can elicit achievement of fitness goals.

25:00: How to not be a zombie

Dr. Rachel describes how being present can enhance focus, engagement with the activity and live life from a more awakened place.  Rudy and Dr. Rachel also discuss how negative self-talk creates someone’s reality and how meditation can help.

30:00:  Benefits of unplugging, solitude, and taking quiet space with self and why so many people struggle to be alone with themselves

Rudy shares his knowledge about how beneficial looking inward can be.  Dr. Rachel recognizes the patterns she sees people struggle with when attempting to fill an internal void.

34:00: How meditation helps you learn to ride the waves of life, and how this is an act of liberation

Dr. Rachel and Rudy discuss how meditation helps eliminate fear, self-reliance, and a clear ability to navigate life’s difficulties, stressors, and pains with more grace, tact, and resilience.
