We all want to feel good everyday. We want to feel secure, confident, free, loved, heard, seen. We want to attract people and experiences that are meaningful and fulfilling.
We all want to move closer to love and further from fear.
The feeling good I’m talking about isn’t just a fleeting sense of pleasure when you buy a new pair of shoes.
Or the temporary high you get when you feel like you’ve nailed a presentation.
I’m talking about how to feel good deep down, reliably, no matter what you do or don’t do, have or don’t have, achieve or not.
This feeling good is way better because it’s more real.
The secret to feeling good everyday is awareness, discipline, practice and committment.
If you’re struggling to embody a life you love, ask yourself: “Am I operating on autopilot?” “What do I notice that I’m feeling, and why?” “Do I feel purposeful in my actions?” “How am I communicating?” “Am I just going along with the motions?”
If you’re unaware of your internal experience, you’re probably disconnected from your truth too. If you’re disconnected from your truth, it’s going to be hard to feel good everyday.
The task is to honor all of your feelings, confront challenging conversations, and be intention-based in what you want to feel, how you think, and what you do.
You can ask yourself, “Am I letting fear drive the bus?” Notice your mind’s tendency to take you to fear-based stories, and shift it back to gratitude. Remind yourself of all you have to appreciate. It is in that very moment you elicit a significant shift. Your ego will reliably take you to fretful places and dwell in past mistakes. Awareness of this frees you to shut it down, and that feels really good.
Once you’re clear on what’s fear and what’s truth, you can make decisions that will support your growth and evolution.
Connecting to the awareness of the happenings in your mind should be accompanied by reliable rituals you do to further support feeling good everyday.
My top 5 recommendations for daily, committed practice to feel good everyday are:
-
Meditate, meditate, meditate.
There’s a reason it’s been around for thousands of years. It really works! If that’s not your thing, allow yourself to be still for even a few moments. Slow down and check in with yourself regularly.
-
Move your body, fluidly, freely, and with respect.
-
Eat clean.
Inflammation, blood sugar dysregulation, and an imbalanced gut will wreak havoc on your mood and cognitive clarity. Eating highly processed foods with loads of refined sugar will make it nearly impossible to feel good everyday. And try not to eat more than your body actually needs.
-
Use essential oils.
They are profound at soothing the nervous system, supporting emotional healing, and helping to self-soothe stress and anxiety. I love them personally, and in my work with patients.
-
Self-affirmation.
You deserve props. Give them to yourself often. Deeply. Not based on a measure of someone else’s idea of success but based on the innate worthiness you possess just for being human.
Do whatever you need to to stay reminded of who you really are. Ask yourself, “What do I want to pursue in my life and why?” “How can I stay open?” and “What makes me feel most alive?”
Remind yourself you can stay grounded, anchored, and centered no matter what happens over the course of the day to pull you away.
Your life is yours to create! It isn’t something that happens to you. It’s something you experience, embark upon, enjoy, and embody.
A commitment to these practices is a way to honor yourself, to dance with the delight of all you are, and to nurture that unapologetically, with respect, love, and devotion.
