The subconscious mind stores vast echoes of experience, memories, emotions, learning, and beliefs. This is important because until we learn how to create shifts and change the body and mind’s subconscious, we will be stuck in perpetual patterns of functioning that may not be in our highest good (think: hamster on wheel). These patterns affect us everywhere.
This is why so many of us experience repetitive patterns in our relationships, jobs, friendships.
Even when we leave one situation, we seem to experience it again in another iteration with a new person or scenario. Unless we’ve healed at the level of the subconscious (in both mind and body), we will continue to attract into our lives what the subconscious mindbody believes and anticipates.
So if you grew up in a home where you witnessed your parents constantly blaming or lying to each other, you were imprinted at the subconscious (limbic brain) level that relationships are not safe or honest. You may manipulate other people into situations or scenarios that absolve you of responsibility or invalidate their experience. Or you may find yourself in those situations, constantly struggling to experience clarity in relationship, or fleeing from closeness or intimacy out of fear that it will be abusive the way it was in childhood. Despite really wanting a healthy and safe partnership consciously, the unhealed and unintegrated subconscious mindbody will not be able to attract in that which you profess to want.
The layers of trauma can run deep.
The majority of our experiences are outside of what we can be fully aware of.
The SubConscious Body
The subconscious isn’t just a matter of mind. It’s also an experience at the cellular, emotional, core wound level of embodiment. The body stores experience and emotion. Its intelligence is profound.
Consciousness is as vast as the cosmos. We carry within our capacity to be conscious endless portals into our own experience. We are experiences of the universe. Souls embodied in the form of a human. We are equipped with depth and capacity beyond what most of us are tuned into.
That is why we begin to experience life beyond conditions imposed on us when we heal core wounds at our subconscious level. Only then can we begin to choose what is actually in our highest good and we’re able to open ourselves to receive the things we actually want.
So how do we change body and mind’s subconscious?
Subconscious shifts start with conscious awareness. Subconscious shifts also start with a soothed and strengthened nervous system. What is required is the capacity to delve into the primitive and outdated stories alive in the mind and in the body — or reorient to something more peaceful, true, kind.
We need to integrate.
Integration is a sacred process of regaining wholeness. Trauma causes fragmentation in the psyche (subconsciously). We split off parts of our authentic self to survive, and we internalize messages about what’s okay and what isn’t. The parts of us that haven’t been encouraged to be fully expressed, felt or honored, become shameful. Of course, then, we judge those parts harshly (whether we’re fully aware of it or not).
When you notice yourself having a strong emotional experience of any kind, this is usually an emotional trigger stemming from an older, younger place. We need to take the beat to check-in with where that emotional charge stems from. Is it a pure reaction? When you experience a really strong reaction to a minor stressor, slow down for a minute to explore if this reaction in you feels young.
Is it an overreaction of your nervous system?
Bring awareness to the mind’s stories.
This opens you into your own need for healing. When we learn to stop projecting our own insecurities onto everybody else, we live from a deeper place of love and acceptance.
This invites authenticity.
Authenticity opens space for desire and deservedness from a place of healed self-value.
This creates alignment.
The path then becomes one that you create intentionally, from love and confidence.
It starts with you.
And the stories you tell yourself that you believe.
The subconscious programs that you’ve been imprinted with may be causing you distance from that which you most want.
Start with your judgments and deepen into yourself from there.
Ask yourself in any given moment…
“Am I aware? What am aware of right now?”
We have to first see the conditions of our minds to begin to tap into their automaticity.
1. See the mind’s stories with awareness
2. Begin to discern veracity and uncover true origins (not pure self but of programming)
3. Through self-reflection and meditation, we begin to rewrite the stories from authentic truth
What else helps shift and change our body & mind’s subconscious?
Breathe (focused attention on it and deep connection to it).
Daily intention setting (this brings more awareness to experience and empowers you as the creator of your experiences).
Healing core wounds (you have to lean into shadow long enough to free yourself from its grip)
A soothed and strengthened nervous system.
Inner child healing (once your inner child knows it’s safe and she can trust you to take the lead in respectful ways, the subconscious mindbody transforms).
Therapy or a consistent self-reflective process (to begin the process of discovery and actualization).
Dream work (a LOT of subconscious shifts happen in the dream realm. Paramount to track. Take note).
Some other practice that can help create change at the subconscious level:
- Hypnosis
- Theta brain state meditation
- Envisioning
- Memory retraining
- Different behaviors to prove wrong old stories and prove right authentic desires and soul pulls
- Deep inner listening
- Behavioral modification
- Mantras and affirmations
- Self-study
- Patience, commitment, and a willingness to learn from the pain.
